The Governance Group, is a Vancouver, British Columbia based consulting firm specializing
in effective governance, board development, CEO/Executive Director Performance Evaluation
and strategic planning services.
We have been providing solution focused governance consulting services to Boards
and Chief Executives of Professional and Trade Associations, Health Boards, Colleges,
Regulatory Agencies, Councils, Nonprofit Agencies and Public Sector organizations
throughout BC since 1985.
We are specialists in helping boards of directors find appropriate and relevant
solutions to the governance and management related issues they are experiencing.
Our approach in working with clients is to learn about their organization; identify,
clarify and bring focus to the issues and challenges they are seeking to address;
and, to establish the outcomes, results and expectations that our strategies and
solutions are expected to achieve.
Our work with boards is based on Leadership-Focused Governance – The Partnership
Approach to Governing. The partnership approach views ‘organizational governance’
– the combined roles of governing and managing – as a collaborative partnership
between the Board and the Chief Executive. Within this framework the role of both
the Board and the Chief Executive is to provide leadership to the organization.
The Board does this by focusing on governing, and the Chief Executive by focusing
on management and operations. Together, they provide an organization with the structural
and process dynamics essential for organizing, guiding and facilitating the pursuit
and fulfillment of its goals.
Effective governance requires the Board and Chief Executive to work harmoniously
as partners committed to helping the organization fulfill its mission and achieve
its vision. An ‘organizational governance’ perspective enables a better understanding
of the different purposes, roles, responsibilities and authorities of a Board and
its Chief Executive.
